Study Guardian ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal information is collected, used, and protected when you use our desktop application.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Local Data Only
Study Guardian operates entirely locally on your computer. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Video footage from your webcam
- Face detection data or biometric information
- Images or any visual data
- Personal identifiable information
- Study session statistics (unless you choose to export them)
1.2 What We Do Process Locally
The application processes the following data locally on your machine for real-time face detection:
- Live video frames from your webcam (analyzed in-memory only)
- Face landmark coordinates (calculated in RAM, never saved)
- Session duration and timer data (stored locally if you enable history)
2. How We Use Your Information
All processing happens 100% offline on your device:
- Face detection models run locally using TensorFlow.js
- No data is sent to external servers
- No internet connection is required after initial setup
- All AI inference happens in your computer's memory
3. Data Storage
Study Guardian stores only configuration files and optional session logs on your local machine:
- Configuration:
%APPDATA%/StudyGuardian/
- Session history (if enabled): stored in JSON format
- You can delete all data by uninstalling the app
- No cloud sync or backup is performed
4. AI Models
The application uses pre-trained face detection models:
- Models are downloaded from the official face-api.js GitHub repository during first setup
- Once downloaded, models are stored locally and never update automatically
- Model weights are approximately 200KB total
5. Security
We take security seriously:
- Camera access is requested only when you click "Start"
- No screenshots or video recordings are ever saved
- All data stays within your machine's memory
- The app runs with standard user permissions only
6. Third Parties
Study Guardian does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only external network request is during first-time model download (optional).
7. Your Rights
Since we don't collect your data:
- You can uninstall the app to remove all local files
- There is no account to delete
- No personal data is stored on our servers
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
